About Council Meetings

Leominster Town Council consists of sixteen elected members or councillors representing four wards. Each councillor is elected for a 4 year uninterrupted term of office. The next local election will be held in May 2027. They serve on the various Committee, Task & Finish Groups and Working Groups at which decisions to improve the Town and its facilities are made.

Councillors have various roles including:

  • Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Council
  • Chairs and Vice-Chairs of Committees
  • Members of Committees
  • Representatives of local residents
  • Representatives on outside bodies
  • Ward representatives

Committees

The Finance and General Purposes Committee is responsible for all the development of policy, management and monitoring of all financial aspects of the Town Council. The Committee considers and awards grants to local organisations from the Council’s Grant Budget. The Committee is also responsible for the management of personnel and appoints a Personnel Sub-Committee to deal with staffing matters.

The Planning & Highways Committee meets on a three weekly cycle to discuss the Town Council’s response to planning applications. It forwards observations, concerns and objections on planning applications to Herefordshire Council. It has also been involved in developing the Leominster Area Neighbourhood Plan (LANP) and comments on items such as local and structure plans (Herefordshire Core Strategy) and issues relating to the regeneration of the town, public transport, car parking, public footpaths and bridleways. This was passed by referendum on 28th February 2019.

The Environment and Services Committee is responsible for the development of policy, management and monitoring of open spaces owned or maintained by the Town Council including the Grange, Priory Churchyard, Pinsley Mead, Sydonia, Booth Garden, Ginhall Green. It is responsible for the Environmental Team, the play areas and developing investment options for each site. Recently it has provided new litter bins and seating in the public open spaces,  installed an new play area, outdoor gym and football goal in Sydonia, developed a master plan for The Grange open space, set up a business recycling initiative for the town centre in partnership with Binit and supported  Leominster in Bloom.

​The Communications and Events Committee oversees the Town Council’s involvement in tourism, town-wide initiatives, and events (including the regular Friday market and monthly Farmer’s Market) as well as the Christmas Light Switch On Event.

Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings and there are 15 minutes set aside during each meeting to allow public to participate and to ask questions. The meetings are currently held at the Council Chamber, 11 Corn Square, Leominster, HR6 8YP. Entry is via the green front door or through the Tourist Information Centre if access is required in the lift.
